Due to its proximity to Ngong Ping and the Big Buddha Statue, Tai O became popular among tourists in recent years and some people even refer to Tai O as the "Venice of Hong Kong" or the "Venice of the Orient". Honestly, don't expect too much of the comparison with the famous Italian city. The architecture of the stilt-houses is quite unique, but far away from the romantic Italian equivalent.
