Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was shot at one of the gardens in the Morris County New Jersey

Time

It was shot in the mid afternoon.

Lighting

The flower was on the side of a trail and was very shaded on light was coming through the trees. I did not want any of the greener behind the flower to take away the beauty of the flower. This became a challenge with a standard lens. Even tried using my 90 mm macro but was not happy with the results. It also was challenging getting the proper angle. I chose to use a 300mm at 300mm Macro Zoom.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D7200 with a Nikon 18mm(27mm)-300mm(450mm) macro Zoom Lens. Hand held from a siding position on the trail.

Inspiration

The flower was like finding a beautiful women peering out of the bushes not knowing she was beautiful and alone on a stage.

Editing

I use ACDsee and adjusted the shadow range just a hair.

In my camera bag

I normal carry a Nikon D7000 with a Nikon 60mm(90mm) Micro Lens, Nikon D7200 with a Nikon 18mm(27mm0-300mm(450mm) zoom Lens and a Tamron 150mm(275mm)-600mm(900mm) Zoom Lens. I also carry a set of Hoya 77m +1,+2,+4 filters and a Tiffen 77mm adjustable neutral density filter.

Feedback

I am mostly an action photographer that decided to expand into what I call Photographic Art. A good friend of mine started asking me to go on photo shoots. I was amazed at the positions he would get into and how he would find these small delicate flowers that I would pass by. I loved his pictures and decided to learn. The first thing was I had to learn patience and discovery. How to see a flower not with my eyes but in the lens of the camera. How to present that image so it makes the viewer as I say "want to date that flower." I was shocked to discover how well that has expanded my photography into people, landscapes..
