Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at the Butterfly House in St. Louis, Mo.

Time

Around 11 AM.

Lighting

I can't take any credit for the lighting. That was all done by the Butterfly House.

Equipment

I used a Canon Mark ii 7d with a 55x250 mm lens. No flash or tripod.

Inspiration

The butterflies were my inspiration. I've tried taking photos of them out in the wild, but never in captivity. I wanted to see what would happen.

Editing

I adjusted the saturation and the brightness and contrast. Not much else. I love to play around in post-processing, but when I love what I see, I will keep it minimal.

In my camera bag

I have my camera, a 50 mm lens, an 18x135 mm lens, and a 70x250 mm lens (the last two are kit lenses) a flash, extra batteries, a few filters, battery chargers and cleaning supplies.

Feedback

The only thing I can think to suggest is to have a camera that is good for taking active photos. It doesn't have to be one for sports shooting, but it definitely helps. And don't ever give up. You won't ever get anything good if you give up. Sometimes the best photos take perserverence, and sometimes they're a happy accident!
