I took this photo at my local park in the spring a few years ago. Ironically, it was for a photography class assignment, and I happened to be there at the right time to catch the mama and her baby ducklings swimming.Time
The time of day was during the golden hour. I had a beautiful reflection, and I was working that when the duckling was swimming up. I definitely took advantage of that. At that time the photo was taken, I believe that the time frame was around 5-6 pm.Lighting
The lighting was perfect for this assignment. I used only natural light for the photo. The golden hour was definitely helpful for this photo.Equipment
I used my Nikon P510 camera. My settings were Aperture 69/10?ISO 100?Shutter 1/200?Focal Length 321/2. I did not use any other equipment.Inspiration
What inspired me was that the timing was beautiful and the ducklings were swimming with the mama duck towards me. I knew this would be a great opportunity to work on the photos. Also, baby ducklings are so cute. Who couldn't resist a beautiful baby duckling? :)Editing
Yes, I did do post-processing in Photoshop. I did the basic edits of color, contrast, highlights, shadows, curves and I did some dodging and burning. In my camera bag
Well, at that point, I didn't have a camera bag. I just had my P510, and extra memory cards.Feedback
My advice is practice, practice, practice! Work the photo! If you just stumble on to something like this, consider yourself lucky. Definitely shoot during the golden hour (an hour before sunset or an hour after sunrise). The rich, warm tones and reflections you can get are amazing and definitely add texture and interest to the photo.
