Shot this at one of my best friend's house in Lamma Island. I was a working student in Hong Kong at that time and finding an affordable studio that works both for me an my model's schedule was a bit hard. Luckily, my friend who was away and has always been really supportive of my craft offered me to use her place instead. Cut the story short, I build a make-shift studio in her living room out of a drapery and a single studio lightning.Time
The whole studio photography thing was fairly new to me since I normally do street, music and events. And this was also a first nude shoot for me and my model so initially we were all nervous and awkward about starting but after taking our time to ease our nerves, we manage to pull off the whole thing around half past 10 in the evening. A couple of sips of wine really helps *winks*.Lighting
The lightning was pretty straight up. I just want it to focused on my subject and the sense of secrecy surrounds it. The single lightning and natural darkness in the background was able to deliver that.Equipment
I used Canon 5D mkII with Canon 50mm f/1.2 lens. I had a Gitzo tripod and a Canon 580EXII speedlight flash but never really get to use them. l don't know why but I think i just prefer to shoot with minimal gear and only kept them just in case of emergency.Inspiration
There was this open exhibit, a sort of an experiment to reinterpret art in a world dominated by social media. The idea was to invite everyone to submit their work where you can be the creator and critic. Also to define what is art and what is not and who are we to say it is or it is not. For me, I dwelled on the subject of female nudity and the art within. I wanna see it for myself whether nudity really sells mainly because of the sexual element entangled within or do the viewer see the art within it instead.Editing
I use two photos to create this image. One is the nude shot and the other is a texture shot. I used photoshop to merge these two images by using the overlaying function and also do a minor modification to brightness and contrast. In my camera bag
Depends on what I am up to. For music and events I normally have my 5D with 17-40mm lens on it. For streets, I shuffled around Rollieflex and Leica M6/M4-P but For everyday use, I have my LOMO LC-A do that because it is so small and compact it literally never leaves my bag. However, moving here in Melbourne proves to be expensive for film photography and I have to go back shooting digital again with my Leica D-LUX (typ 109)Feedback
If you're not feeling it, don't push it, you'll just end up having bad photos. It is essential for every photographers to form a connection with their craft. after all we are the creator and what we do, see or feel will transcribe to our creation.
