Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was not taken at a fancy location, it was taken at the garden behind my house. I live in Groningen in The Netherlands.

Time

This was a lucky shot actually. I woke up on a Sunday morning, around 11 a.m and it was there, just sitting in a tree. I ran back inside to grab my camera and I took quit a lot of photo's. Turned out I didn't have to hurry at all, he stayed all day and flew away in the evening around 9 p.m

Lighting

I used natural light as I found it the most suiting for a 'nature' photo. I took this photo around 11 a.m when the sun was not yet high up in the sky. A slightly lower sun gives a bit of a glow and I found that a good fit.

Equipment

This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 400D and a 28-135mm F3.5 lens and I used natural light.

Inspiration

I always wanted to shoot wildlife, so when I saw the owl I didn't hesitate and I grabbed my camera. He was so calm so I could shoot him from a lot of different angles. He was really curious and I wanted to capture that on the photo.

Editing

This is the original photo, no editing was done to create this image.

In my camera bag

The first thing i pack is my new body, my Canon EOS 70D. The lenses I take with me are my Tamron 60mm F2 macro, because I have a thing for macrophotography. And I always pack my Samyang 10mm T3.1 Cine. I usually use it for my cinema camera but it work a charme on my photo camera for wide angle shots. And I used to have my Canon 28-135mm F3.5 with my, but sinds its broken I'm looking for a replacement.

Feedback

Look around you, don't focus to much on location. In my experience the is a lot of beauty around you, if you have the feeling you can see it.
