On our last vacation to the alpes (Austria) I was looking for some waterfalls, and since I've never been to Austria before, I only knew what I could find online.
But somehow I never thought that this could be amazing since it was in the forrest at usually really crowded.
But the manager at our hotel told me that in the morning and in overcast weather so the light could illuminate the water and the rocks in the most amazing way.
And the dirt road to the waterfall, where it just suddenly appears is like a page out of a fairytale.

I am always impressed by the result of a fullframe Canon camera. And this long exposure shot is very beautiful!

Location
This photo is taken i the Austrian alps during summer, the waterfall is called Gollinger Waterfall and is located about 30 minutes from Salzburg and it is super easy to get to, making it one of the best places to shoot waterfalls in EuropeTime
This image is taken around noon, and the best time during summer is at sunrise or sunset, but since it was raining a bit, i could photograph it in the middle of the dayLighting
The fact that it is located deep in the woods, makes it very easy to photography all year, but during summertime, it is best to visit if it is overcast of even raining.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D mark ii, and my 17-40mm f/4 I used a tripod and a 10 stop ND filterInspiration
I wanted to create a fairytale like image of a waterfall, and most waterfalls in Austria are located in the open and high up and exposed. The point of this image was to create something unique and that tells a story, and I have been spending most of my time as a boy and young man in nature, so my love for nature and storytelling inspired me to take this photoEditing
This image is an exposureblending of 3 images, so I could capture details in the water, the waterfall, the rocks and the shadows Not much else is done do the photo due to the perfect lighting conditionsIn my camera bag
I always have my Canon 5D mk iv in my bag, my 17-40mm, a 70-200mm and some ND filters, this is the essential gear for meFeedback
Try your best to find a different angle than planned or seen before, explore the area, and take a lot of photos with different shutterspeeds That way you have a lot to choose from and are never left being irritated by the fact that you missed an angle of something else. Waterfalls are often best photographed with the sun behind it or on cloudy days to prevent harsh shadows, and a good shutterspeed are between 2 seconds and 3-4 minutes Find some leading lines that draws the viewer into the image and some foreground interest to focus on.
