Location
This photo was taken in Maribor, Slovenia. There is a small hill on which was in medieval times a castle. You can see some ruins on the picture.Time
This image is one of my first great shots. You probably know, you got a lot of bad shots and a lot of good shots, but great a rare. I try to find my way to make as much great photos as possible, thats why I try to shoot at sunset. That was the time when this image was shot.Lighting
On that day I needed a hike and the lighning was spectacular. The clouds were also very inviting so I could get a little bit more depth. I also like warm colours so I believe sunset is the best shooting time for me.Equipment
The equipment was pretty basic. A Nikon D5100 and the kit lens Nikkor 18-55mm. That's it. :)Inspiration
I knew I wanted to shoot a beautiful sunset, but the destination had to be a little higher up, because the terrain here is uneven. Before that shot I took some images, but none could compare to this one on the summit, so it was the best location.Editing
Post-processing is a significant process if you want to make very good pictures. For this one I used Adobe Lightroom. I made some basic adjustments for e.g. shadows, highlights and white-balance. Later on I edited the image further in photoshop with the NIK collection tools. With these tools I enhanced the colours even further. So I could get the right punch in the picture. I like the NIK collection tools, because of the noise reduction tools and the various enhancmend tools like VIVEZA and ColorEfex4.In my camera bag
My complete equipment is still quite basic. Mostly I use: Nikon D5100, Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4, Nikkor 50mm 1.8G, Cullman Tripod, UV filter and a ND1000 filter. That's my equipment. ;)Feedback
If you are shooting landscapes I believe you need a good fore, middle and background. Then the image gets a good depth. Perfect are wide angle lenses to capture all the brilliant details. I tripod or monopod is a must have and last but not least you have to go out and shoot pictures and try different stuff and then you will get your great pictures. Don't be discouraged because you got an old DSLR or not one of the best DSLR on the market. You can get good images also with used and older cameras. So... I wish you happy shooting. :)
