Our planet rotates on it's axis at just over 1000 miles per hour, and around the Sun at about 67,000 miles per hour. With a long enough exposure this creates the illusion that the stars above us are spinning around Polaris (the north star) in the night sky.
I created this image by blending in photoshop 72 individual 30 second exposures of the same patch of sky. The more shots used the more dramatic the effect.
