Location
This photo was taken on a family trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We were on a hike, and I almost didn't even bring my camera! Imagine that. Lesson learned!Time
If I remember correctly, it was in the late morning. The sun was up behind my shoulders, hence the sparseness of shadows.Lighting
The lighting in this picture was all natural. I didn't use flash or anything like that. It was filtering through some trees, which helped to remove the harshness of the mid-day sun.Equipment
This photo was taken with my Nikon L820. Very basic camera, and rather inexpensive.Inspiration
I didn't necessarily set out to take this very photo. The purpose was never to photograph bees and flowers. Rather, I just had the general desire to capture what I saw on our hike. I saw this bee harvesting pollen, and decided to see what I could make of that.Editing
For most of my images, I try to steer clear from over-editing. For me, the purpose of photography is to share my world and how I see it, with the rest of the world. Doing too much post-processing gets in the way of that transparency, so I try to make minimal changes (i.e. cropping, contrast, brightness, shadows) to my photos. While this may take me out of the running for most contests, I feel proud of the fact that I share the "rawest" photos I can.In my camera bag
I usually carry very basic equipment: iPhone 5s, Nikon L820, and a handful of AA Batteries. Plus snacks. I love snacks.Feedback
Keep your eyes out. This shot was very organic, and I had no intention of this specific one. Be aware of what is happening around you, and the photos will naturally come. Often, if you go out searching for one specific thing, you will find it; but you may miss out on so much more along the way because it wasn't exactly what you were looking for.
