The beauty of being a mother and a photographer is I always have a subject to photograph. This is my little girl. I took this photo in my backyard in Atascocita, Texas.Time
Looking back at my work from when I first started I can see how much I have grown and learned since then just by the quality of my images. This particular image was when I was first starting out and practicing every chance I got. It is still one of my favorite shots to this day. I took this picture right as the sun was setting, mostly because I was to impatient to wait another day to find the best time to shoot. I'm glad I did because it came out perfect for me.Lighting
I used the sun setting to my advantage (and the fact that I just had to get the shot right then and there no matter what the lighting was). My backyard is surrounded by trees so it cast a lot of shade and shadows. This helped to add to the darkness I was looking for in my image.Equipment
I used a Sony DSC-T110 camera. f/3.5, 1/125sec., ISO-80, and no flash. I was still learning so I was in auto mode.Inspiration
I love Gothic Photography. I wanted to practice on my daughter to create a gothic inspired image. There is something about the beauty of darkness that leaves pictures simply beautiful and mysterious.Editing
The only post-processing I did for this image was to do a little cropping and changed it to a black and white. The camera I used was a great camera for me at the time but I shot mostly in auto. Honestly I'm not even sure if it gave me the option to shoot in raw. Ha-Ha that's how much of a beginner I was.In my camera bag
I have upgraded my camera since I shot this photo. I know have in my camera bag a Sony A77II. I keep my main lens a 16-50 mm and a 55-300 mm with me at all times. I also carry an extra battery, my charger, a external flash, a waterproof cover. Then the rest of the bag is full of stuff to clean my camera with and wipes for those just in case moments with a client.Feedback
Don't be scared to step out of your comfort zone and try to create a photo you can envision. Practice, practice and practice as much as you can. There is still things I learn every time I use my camera.
