Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a studio at the college I was taking photography classes.

Time

It was late in the afternoon, I had already taken the pictures I would need for my project and my brother made this pose and I knew I had to have it.

Lighting

I knew I wanted a dramatic shot and having my brother sort of behind the mannequin gave me the desired effect

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3100 for this shot. The lighting, tripod, and backdrop were provided by my schools photo department.

Inspiration

My brother is a wonderful model he just knows what to do without being asked to do much. I saw the mannequin in the corner of the room and I thought we'd have some fun. I knew he would perform like he always does. I was not disappointed.

Editing

I'm not one to do much in post-processing normally just the simple touch ups. With this on it was the same way. I played around with the contrast a bit and then I lowered the saturation to get a paler color.

In my camera bag

I'm still working on getting all of the equipment I need. I usually have 1 body, 2 lenses, a few filters, extra batteries, memory cards. Not much but I'm slowly expanding my bag.

Feedback

When choosing a model I find it better to have someone I know really well. Kbowing their personality is always a good way to know what direction the shoot should go, whether that be in a more comedic route or a more serious route or in my case right down the middle of those two.
