Location
Taken as the sun set on a April evening on Anglesey, Wales. It was actually taken as series of images blended together to create a large file for a canvas that now hangs in my lounge.Time
This was the very last light of a spring evening, I had been waiting around for a couple of hours to get the best light. You can walk out over the beach to this location but a little care and planning is required not to get cut off by the tide. The day was one of those early warm days you get in spring but as I packed my gear away and the sun finally set the chill in the air reminded me is was not quite summer yet.Lighting
Just as the sun set it lit up the tower and picked it out against the hazy blue sky.Equipment
I took this as a series of four shots with my Canon 60D tripod mounted with a Sigma 17-50mm lens f/11 and 10sec exposure. I used a polarizing filter and was testing out a new five stop ND.Inspiration
I was on holiday in Wales and had been looking for locations to shoot before I set off. I found this location by checking out the OS maps and using google earth. I had to wait for a couple of days while on holiday in the area but when the weather was right I headed to the Island and found a number of fantastic locations.Editing
So I went though my normal post-processing but the light was so fantastic there was little needed to be done. The main work was to blend the series of photos together to get the single large image. In my camera bag
I usually carry two cameras my trusty old 60D which I used in this case, it was bought second hand and still takes great pictures. Usually the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 is on this camera and that does most of my landscape photos. They other camera I use most is the 7D with the Canon 70-200 F4. I rarely go out without my filter kit and have a selection of ND filters and a polarizing filter. One of my favorite cameras right now though is my Canon 100D its so light and as such you take it out more!Feedback
Wales and Anglesey are amazing locations to shoot, the weather is so changeable that you can get all four seasons in a day! making the most of the location involves a bit of planning and so consider a trip to scout the area for best compositions. Timing is key and getting up early or hanging around till sunset will really give your photos the edge. As an amateur myself I have learnt having nice gear is great but you have got to make the most of it. I would rather spend money on a photography holiday than a new camera right now.
