I travel to Idaho to visit a very good friend, and love this drive in the Palouse country. Old Barns call my name, so no matter what time of year, I stop to take a few images. The landscape is simple and colorful, throughout the 4 seasons.

This is a very striking composition .. love the contrast of sky and earth and one stark man made building blending in so well .. weather worn and organic.

This photo was taken on a gravel road in the Palouse country of Idaho. The Palouse is coined as a scenic byway in Washington and also in Idaho. I am in Idaho quite often, and the Palouse offers the most beautiful landscapes for all seasons. This was early September after the wheat was harvested. I love old barns and simple lines with the different colors of dirt, wheat stubble, and the rolling hills of the Palouse. This unique landscape offers a variety of contrast for both color and textures.Time
I usually like to take photos in early morning or late afternoon. This day I decided to just drive around on the back roads and see what was photo worthy. My friend was driving me and I spied this barn off in the distance. So I stopped, took out my DMC-FZ and my I-Phone 4S as a back up. Using the car door as a tripod, I took images with both. There is another with my I-phone 4S showing this barn at the roadside, the same place I took this original photo. The iPhone photo is also in my gallery.Lighting
Love these cloudy days with sunshine because it offers so many changing lighting and shadows. This was one of those spectacular cloudy days with many variations on light timing. I waited until there was light through the clouds that surrounded the barn and gave the wheat stubble that pop of light yellow. I wanted to be sure that the roof of the barn was lower than the hill, when I shot this view. There was a no trespassing sign, so I was unable to get closer.Equipment
I didn't have my tripod, so I used the open car door to steady my DMC-FZ35 and I-Phone 4S.Inspiration
Some folks stop for Garage Sales, however, I stop to take photos of barns. They all have such stories to tell, and I always wonder about the families they belonged to and all the animals and memories inside those walls. Were there children to play in these barns, did they help drive the equipment, was the family part of a local co-op that were helped with monetary rewards?Editing
I don't have photo shop or light room, so most of my photos are a simple crop or light and color enhancement. This one was no different. Yes I am fascinated with the HD processes, and the other applications for enhancement, however, I believe my knowledge of improvement will be better served if I just keep experimenting with all the areas of my cameras. In my camera bag
My newly acquired Nikon Coolpix P900, my DMC-FZ35, a gorilla tripod, and taller tripod, 2 extra batteries, and extra SD Cards. I am still learning, so try to keep my equipment at a minimum.Feedback
Experiment with angles, lighting, and just keep pressing the shutter button. Since I am a hands on person, my learning curve is to keep shooting more and more. Most days I try to experiment with something in my yard, flowers, vegetables, birds or deer. My gallery is mostly animals, plants and trees. I just recently started to capture people and their personalities. Life just keeps getting better and better for this "ageless woman" who looks forward to the next day of adventure.
