Mt. Bromo in East Java is easily one of my favorite places I have ever visited in my life. I took the picture of the mountain just as the Sun was bursting out from the East.Time
I took this photo around 5 AM. We had to leave in the middle of the night to get to the hot spot. We sat in the jeep shivering in cold from 2:30 AM to get the place. We got in early, but there was a crowd already there to take in the beauty around us. It is quite a hike to get there to get a great glimpse of the beautiful sunrise. It was really dark when we tried to set up our tripods, we put our cellphone on flashlight mode and got ready. Nothing prepared us for the stunning beauty about to unravel itself in front of us. Nature truly is mysterious and stunning.Lighting
Early morning is very beautiful, but it worked against the mystery I wanted to create, as the sunlight was harsh, suddenly the dreamy clouds came down and mingled with the hot smoke coming out of the live caldera, it simply made up for the lost mystery.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7100 with an all rounder 18-300 MM Nikon lens at 18 MM, shutter speed 1/10Inspiration
We went to Indonesia and I chose to go to Mt Bromo after listening to the interesting stories about the mountain itself. It was history that took me there, but it was beauty that stayed with me.Editing
I used a simple post processing to bring out the purples and pinks . I believe a lot of it was luck finding the right spot and getting a good picture. The nature did the rest.In my camera bag
I always carry my handy D7100 Nikon camera attached to a 18-300MM lens. I use only one lens though I do have a 50MM prime. This particular lens lets me go from landscape photography to bird photography at a moment's notice. I find this very convenient. I also carry my tripod , cleaning cloth, brush. a coin to tighten screws, a plastic bag and a rolled up old tshirt. Which goes from cleaning my tripod to becoming a cushion if necessary.Feedback
Make sure you get there early. Early is 3 AM. People were already ready when I reached there at 3:30AM so I did not get such a great vantage point. It gets cold carry a jacket and a hoodie. Definitely carry your gradient filter, it will help in exposure.
