Location
This was taken in South Africa, Strand. A town with a lot of character and charm.Time
I happen to come across these Seagulls on a part of the Strand beach front, a spot I haven't ventured on before. It was taken on 18 January 2016 at 7:50pm. We were experiencing a heat wave that month with severe wild fires in the area. Which created a really bad smokey haze over the False bay area.Lighting
For this I had to wait for the golden hour as I knew it would be perfect with the smoke adding an extra layer to the already beautiful scene.Equipment
This was taken with my Nikon D3300 with an 55 - 200mm lens at f5.6. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
Wild fires are extremely devastating to our environment and lives. We normally just see the devastation that it brings but we forget that there is beauty in it as well. I wanted to capture that during the sunset. We normally have beautiful sunsets but with the smoke it added another level to it. The birds was a truly welcome site and added bonus to the scene. I believe I managed to capture the beauty that was hidden in the smoke.Editing
I only used Lightroom to do some miner adjustments on the exposure, contrast and to bring some of the color out.In my camera bag
At the moment I only have my Nikon D3300 with the stock 18 - 55mmDX, 55 - 200mmDX and an older 70 - 300mm I got as a present.Feedback
Each scene I capture is a tale that I want to tell. So when I go out for a shoot I do so with plan. You always need to keep your eyes open as you never know what you will find even if you have a rough idea of what you want. Do plan ahead and make sure to always have the right equipment with you even if you don't plan on using it. Experiment and use your environment to your advantage. Don't be afraid to get into weird positions to capture those one in a life time moments. After all a photo is a captured moment in time that can bring forth unlimited tales to those that view it. But it will always have that special memory that you carry and share with others.
