Behind The Lens

Location

This is taken in my hometown Strand. This area is very familiar to the locals here and is known as The Pipes, a favourite spot for surfers and bodyboarders. Over time the ocean has taken back what man has placed here.

Time

This was taken at sunset around 18h30 and still a rather cold spring. We luckily still have some amazing sunsets during this time. The last few years the weather has been very different as we still get rain late into summer but this brings those high clouds that give us these amazing sunsets.

Lighting

The high-level cloud cover gave me the perfect light, nothing else was needed for this amazing scene.

Equipment

This was taken with my Nikon D3300 with an 18 - 55mm Nikor lens. Manfrotto tripod

Inspiration

It is always amazing to see how nature takes back the areas that humans have claimed. For me, it leaves some amazing subjects to include in landscape photography. This leaves the audience with a view that can really let their imagination go.

Editing

I used Lightroom for post-processing. I changed some of the exporure of the sky using a luminicity mask so I could bring out those clouds. I further changed some of the hihglights and shadows.

In my camera bag

At the moment I only have my Nikon D3300 with the stock 18 - 55mmDX, 55 - 200mmDX and an older 70 - 300mm I got as a present.

Feedback

Take your time and look at the area you are in. Look for the tale that the lanscape wants to tell you and don't always follow the rules.
