Behind The Lens

Location

I was very excited about this photo of Mr Murphy. He is a very handsome guy but it's proven difficult to take a good photo of him. Murphy was sitting on my wife's lap and I knew I had the perfect moment.

Time

It was in the middle of a lazy day around the holidays. His face captures the mood of everybody in the room at the time.

Lighting

It was just one of those moments that natural light from the window combined with the interior lighting and we had a great photo on our hands.

Equipment

I shoot with my Galaxy S6 camera phone. No flash and nothing fancy.

Inspiration

As I mentioned previously, Mr Murphy is a hard subject to capture. He's always in motion and because his fur is so monochrome, the shots usually end up showing a black, blurry, blob. Also, his face reflects the mood of his human family perfectly. We were all in a lazy, relaxed state of mind.

Editing

Yes, I did a quick edit on my phone using an app called Snapseed. My goal was to bring focus to Murphy's great expression without losing some of the surrounding textures. Specifically, my wife's sweater, which is that little bit of color in the foreground.

In my camera bag

My camera's always in my pocket!

Feedback

Anyone with a house pet knows that they can "look like themselves" at different times. I'm always paying attention to when the pet's true personality shines through. When it comes to your pets, take as many photos as possible. 100 shots may produce one gem!
