Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Ibiza, Spain on a northern beach named Cala Benirras just as the drumming and bonfires were getting started to countdown the sun set; a daily ritual on this beach in the summer months.

Time

This was closer to 9pm as the sun was setting on a September eve.

Lighting

This is a sheltered bay with serene clear waters, and the rock of Cap Bernat creates a silhouette over the calm waters, also known as the “hand of God” by locals, creating a beautiful spectrum of lighting throughout the sunset hour.

Equipment

Nikon D610, handheld, no flash or other equipment.

Inspiration

Listening to the tribal beats reverberating across the entirety of the beach for sundown, a summer ritual, and the beauty of the moment seeing a mother holding her sleeping baby while enjoying the sunset as everyone made their way to the bonfires/drums and nearby restaurant for fresh Paella.

Editing

Yes, Lightroom to adjust for exposure, blacks, crop, etc. Standard effort to get the look I was after.

In my camera bag

Nikon D610, Tripod, 1 flash, remote, Android Nikon app and wifi dongle to control the camera, extra batteries, flash diffuser.
