Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a little place near me called Parbold Hill

Time

It was my day off from work and i decided to go for a nice walk with my girlfriend, we had been out most of the day walking through the fields and we stumbled across a little hilltop view where a monument stood, it ended up being just before sunset around 7pm in the evening and we where greeted by a beautiful skyline.

Lighting

The lighting on the evening/night was very beautiful, the mixtures blues and pinks was truly stunning with dramatic clouds just set the mood perfectly.

Equipment

the camera used was a Sony a7, lens was a Samyang 14mm f2.8 wide angle lens, i used a standard tripod nothing special there and that was it.

Inspiration

i have been wanting to get into landscape photography for a while now it is something i truly enjoy doing, so i have been making my self go around to different areas of the country to find beautiful places, turns out you don`t have to travel to far from home to find stunning landscapes and when i saw this scene i knew i just had to add it to my collection.

Editing

I did a little post processing on this image, at the time the Sony a7 was still relatively new to me so i did not know all of its functionality. so the original image was a single shot and not a HDR, i knew i wanted the sky to be the main focal point in the image so the foreground ended up being quite dark. i adjusted the shadows and brought them back up. introduced a little clarity to the image and also a little dehaze to the image just to make the sky pop a little more.

In my camera bag

Normally in my bad now would be the Sony a7 ii, a zeiss 25mm f2.8 lens, a canon 70-200 f4L lens, a couple spare batteries and a 10 stop filter for my zeiss lens. nothing special and nothing too over bearing, i try to keep it as light as possible when i go out shooting.

Feedback

My best advice would be don`t give up, these sorts of scenes do happen regular but are very weather dependent, you may go out one day expecting it to be a beautiful sunset and it may rain or be gloomy. Do not be put off by that, change the type of shot you want out to take so that you are at least going home with something. The more practice you have the better your images become, once as scene like this does finally happen for you, you will be ready to take full advantage of it and come away with something you are truly proud of.
