The use of contrasting colours within the composition makes this image sing. I would have loved to find out whether the entire sign at the upper left read "I Want It All". You should get it all for this image.

Thank you for commenting! I would love to have got all of the sign text into the image. Unfortunately, I am limited by the focal length of the lenses that I own. I did not want to compromise on the angle or portion of the bridge shown, so the left edge of the frame (including the sign text had to get cut).

This is awesome....did they change that blue and green out during Superbowl XLIX to red white and blue? :)

I'm not sure, but that would be pretty cool. The colors of the lights are actually constantly changing. I just happened to catch them at these colors in the photo. I believe that when Prince died they had changed the color to purple, so maybe the Superbowl thing could be real...

My first impression was that this image look like a scene from a futuristic Bruce Willis movie. Good luck with image of the month contest

Location
This photo was taken at the Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Bridge that carries Route 9 over Lake Quinsigamaond in Worcester, MA and Shrewsbury, MA.Time
This photo was taken just after sundown in order to minimize the contrast between the bright street lights and the dark sky.Lighting
The multi-colored artificial lighting below the bridge is one of the primary points of focus in this image. It creates a sense of drama by casting many shadows across the steel arches.Equipment
This photo was taken with a Nikon D7200 paired with a Nikon 50mm f/1.8G lens. I used a tripod and shutter remote.Inspiration
My day job revolves around bridges, so I often find myself drawn to interesting bridges. Construction of this bridge ended in 2015, a year after I moved away from the area. I was eager to get back and take a shot of the bridge at night after seeing the lighted 'sails' above when passing over one day. I was surprised to find the underside lit by the multi-colored lights that constantly change colors and serve to make this photo really stand out.Editing
This photo was processed using the basic controls in Adobe Lightroom. In my camera bag
I rarely carry a camera bag with me since most of my shooting is spontaneous. When I do, I usually bring a tripod, lens filters and two lenses (my 24-70mm lens and my 105mm macro).Feedback
When shooting at night use of a tripod is key. I find the best time for night photography is just after the sun has finished setting (when the sky is still a little bright) because the contrast between the sky and any lights is at a minimum, so your photos will require less processing. Since you will be using a tripod, shoot with ISO 100 and increase shutter time to set your exposure for a desired aperture. This is to minimize noise in the image. Also be sure to use the long exposure noise reduction setting on your camera if it has one.
