Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken from below the Forth road bridge at South Queensferry, Scotland, on top of a slippery rock in the freezing Scottish wind.
Time
During the blue hour after sunset. This was actually almost a full hour after sunset. I was concentrating so hard on the road bridge that I missed what was happening behind me, when I turned around to look at the train bridge I was thinking what have I missed and I better get a shot in. Once I started taking photos of the rail bridge I totally forgot about the road bridge. I only got 5-10min of this blue light. I almost lost the photo of a life time with not paying attention to my surrounding.
Lighting
Combination of three 30 seconds exposures at ISO100 and F9
Equipment
Tripod on a large rock covered with slippery seaweed, photo taken with my Canon 7D, Canon 10-22mm on manual focus and remote trigger.
Inspiration
I saw a amazing image of a long exposure at the beach with clouds and water looking similar and a island in the distance. I though the lights from the rail bridge against the low misty clouds would have a nice effect. The blue and red works so well together.
Editing
I used three 30second images combined and lightened it a little to get this result.
In my camera bag
I used to have a Canon 1D MKIII and Canon 7D in my bag for night photography. But after using the 7D at the race track for 4 years I decided to give it a go once for night photos and was impressed. I now always have two Canon 7Ds, a Canon 10-22 wide angle, a Canon 24-105 F4 L, a Canon 70-200 F2.8 L, Canon extenders (1.4 & 2), ND filters, loads of cloths, dust blower, plastic rain bags, head torch and the most important business cards for the folks you meet and want to stay in touch with. What can I say the Flipside 400AW can almost carry a house (my back is the weakness or I would carry more).
Feedback
The Forth is very unpredictable. If you don't have a nice shot go get a coffee and when you return it'll be totally different. There are multiple angles and locations plus a North and South side to choose from. There are regular trains and a open shutter of 120seconds will have a complete crossing or combining multiple shots. A beautiful location and well worth a visit. To be honest come visit Scotland you won't be disappointed.
