Location
I took this photo during my trip in New Zealand, South Island near Lake Tekapo on December 20, 2015. There is a place up high of the Mount John University Observatory and it was a lucky moment to catch beautiful lupine blossoms.Time
The day was not looking so sunny, but rather cloudy and I was wondering if it would rain. I made multiple shots from slightly different angles, this shot was taken at 12:20.Lighting
I wanted to experiment and see what kind of color effects and contrast is possible with rather dark cloudy conditions. As this place looked so magical, my only wish was to capture that moment in order to remember and share this beauty, you know it is a bit like trying to stop a great moment. :) I think the cloudy weather really helped the colours to stand out. There is so much of color variation in it that one could 'meditate' over color palette of pink, red, purple flowers, their strong green leaves, yellowish grass behind which transitions into the turquoise lake Tekapo and snowy Southern Alps which transition into the dramatic clouds.Equipment
Although I photograph quite often with my Canon 60D, this picture I took with iPhone 6 camera. I sometimes prefer it because it is so lightweight and easy to position and of course always in my pocket :)Inspiration
In fact I was originally planning to visit Mount John during the night to enjoy the Milkyway, but plans have slightly changed so it happened that I visited the place during the day. As soon as I walked off the path near Observatory and saw this composition, I was fascinated by colours, the shape of the lake and snowy tops of the Southern Alps.Editing
It is not always that post processing really works and makes a picture stand out, but this case I gave it a try with an App called Camera+ which is very intuitive and easy to use app and has quite a lot of different effects. In my camera bag
I noticed that since iPhone 6 even more improved the camera capabilities and has large storage (I have 128 Gb) I take a lot of pictures with my iPhone as it is always there in my pocket and as soon as I am on internet I can immediately share the experience with my friends and family or viewbug :) In parallel I normally often use also Canon 60D and take photos in RAW format, but somehow I notice I fail to take enough of time to review and post process those photos taken.Feedback
I realised that good weather does not really guarantee great pictures, one can do an amazing moment captures also in cloudy or even rainy, stormy conditions. I noticed that I often succeed to capture something extraordinary when I have this special moment of inspiration, something that flows from my inner self that basically stops me from walking past the scenery without trying to make it eternal. It is just this one thought of the greatness of the moment that you want to keep forever.
