This is some of the remains of a sulphur mine that is on White Island in New Zealand. A couple of years ago a catastrophic accident occurred injuring and killing people. It has been a long road to recovery for them.
As it’s an active volcano we had to sign that we knew there was an element of risk. We were given hard hats and masks. Luckily there was no eruption on our visit. There is more work being done on the prediction of such dangerous events.
