Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken alongside the Ottawa river in Ontario. It is an area where local artists create wood and rock sculptures every spring. Of course these get destroyed with the winter ice, but they provide a nice decor when spring comes around. I waited for two Canada geese to swim by for thie composition of this shot.

Time

The photograph was taken in mid-morning when the sunlight is not quite direct, but strong enough to light up the scene.

Lighting

It is difficult to go wrong on a sunny day. The blue of the water stands out and a nice reflection shows up in the ripples.

Equipment

This was shot with a Cnon 70D camera equipped with a Tamron zoom lens. I was cycling by so had no tripod with me. I used a rapid fire of photographs and selected one of the last ones, when presumably all camera shake might be over.

Inspiration

I happened to be photographing the rock sculptures. But when I saw the geese swiiming towards this arrangement, I timed to shot so they were framed by them.

Editing

No post-processing. My philosophy is what you see is what you get.

In my camera bag

I usually carry a Canon L-Series 400mm zoom lens and doubler as well as the equipment mentionned earlier.

Feedback

For nature photography, go outdoors and open your eyes. Amazing shots can be had, even in places you return to.
