This is such a beautiful portrait, Jess. The natural light is really flattering and brings out the glorious colour of Eden's hair. A great capture.

Beautiful girl. Excellent choice of background color. The green/gray chair sets off her hair just right. I also love the light shadow across the left side of her face. Fantastic work.

Location
This photo was taken in a cabin in northern Michigan on Easter Sunday, of this year, 2016. My partner's daughter and family drove up to spend the day with us for dinner and family time.Time
This photo was taken around 2 p.m. in the afternoon. We do not get to see the grandchildren often, so I wanted to make sure to take photos during their visit.Lighting
This photo was taken with natural light in a room that overlooks a lake. The sunlight filtering through the trees into the lake room was perfect!Equipment
I used a Nikon D5500, 18-55mm Lens, no flash or tripod.Inspiration
The inspiration was to take family photos of my grand-daughters. These are memories and keepsakes that will last a lifetime. I didn't want to miss the chance.Editing
I always play with the histogram to gain deeper colors, if I feel the original shot was to light. I also touch up any blemishes to make it picture perfect. I try to get the colors to be exactly true to life as possible when taking portraits. I am still an amateur and learning my camera's settings and capabilities. In my camera bag
I have a Nikon D5500 along with a 55 mm lens and a 200 mm lens.I recently purchased a Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC Art Lens. I now use this one most of the time. I researched camera's and photographer's on Viewbug for months before purchasing this one. I wanted one that would take beautiful portraits and landscapes and was within my budget. I still consider myself an amateur photographer, but since I purchased this camera I was asked to do senior photos. They turned out beautiful using this camera and the family was more than happy with the results. My next purchase will be to get a macro lens and explore the world up close.Feedback
I always have my camera with me, I never know when or where that perfect shot or inspiration might come from. If I know I will be going someplace specific...school function, graduation, family gathering, I will make sure my camera battery is fully charged. Prior to going on a photo shoot I think about what camera settings I might want to use, or what would be best. If possible, I practice shoot the area so I will get a feel for the lighting and best area for photographing. I have a commercial art background so I use my artistic eye and sometimes imagination to try to make it creatively unique in some way. I try looking at what I am photographing with different visual perspectives or ideas. Would it look good in color or black and white etc. Practice makes perfect, is the best advice I can give.
