Location
This is in my front yard, it is a dead branch off of an apple tree, in Sudbury OntarioTime
This is actually taken pretty much mid-day. I shot them landing here almost all morning, but the shots towards mid-day turned out the best.Lighting
A nice clear sunny day, with direct sunlightEquipment
Shot with a Sony A77mk2, with the Sony 70-400m G. It was all mounted on a tripod, and I used remote triggers to snap from a safe distance. The focus was prefixed to the branch, but i was accessing the camera through Wifi to check results, and adjust settingsInspiration
The day previous i had been shoot them in flight approaching the feeder. I noticed that they constantly landed on this dead branch before approaching the feeder, so I thought I would give it a try.Editing
None really, there was a couple dirt spots that required the spot removerIn my camera bag
Way too much stuff, my bag usually weighs in around 35 pounds for day hikes, can hit 60 on road trips. I do vary a bit depending what I am going to shoot, but my must haves are; -Sony A77mk2 -Sony 24-70 F2.8 Zeiss -Sony 70-400 G -Sigma 105mm macro -Rokinon 14mm fisheye -Sony HVl58am Flash, with an assortment of gels and diffusers and batteries -Extra Battery -Filters (c-Pol, adjustable ND) -Cleaning supplies -Extra CardsFeedback
Pay attention to the animal behaviour. Hummingbirds are very predictable. they can be skittish but get used to changes fairly quickly, movement, and noise should be kept minimal. also a little luck and patience
