Behind The Lens

Location

Taken at Rockwood Park in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada.

Time

This was taken on a cold January afternoon. There is one particular spot where lots of people throw seeds, fruit/veggies and bread crumbs for the animals. Squirrels, birds and deer all congregate in this spot. Makes an excellent winter spot for wildlife photography!

Lighting

The winter sun provided all the light I needed for this particular shot.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon Coolpix p100. I zoomed in on his adorable face to blur the background.

Inspiration

I watch wildlife for a while before any shots. I watch their antics and facial expressions. This little one seemed to be one the most expressive!

Editing

This shot is straight from the camera. No post-processing required.

In my camera bag

I have two cameras in my bag - a Nikon Coolpix P100 and a Nikon D3100.

Feedback

The best advice I can give anyone wanting to do wildlife photography is to have patience and lots of it. Animals don't pose for shots. You are lucky to even see them let alone have them stand still for you. Take your time. Wait. Watch. Be still. Most of all though - have fun - enjoy your time with them. How many others get the opportunity to see what you are seeing right now?
