Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from my front yard. I came home one evening and just saw that beautiful big moon hanging in the sky. There is a massive Cottonwood tree on the corner. When I saw the branches hanging down in front of the moon, I knew that was the one.

Time

I believe it was about 8:00 pm. It was one of the spring full moons.

Lighting

I'll be honest. I am just an ameture photographer but i absolutely love it. I'm not very technical on terms either. Night shots are not easy for me. I think what saved this phot was the street light on the corner with the Cottonwood tree. Maybe one of you can give me some simple hints to take better night photos.

Equipment

I just arrived home and I was outside so I used my Samsung 5 phone to take this. It really has a nice camera in it. I also have a Cannon Power Shot. I take photos with both.

Inspiration

I tend to see things as a photo. I think I have a built in view finder in my brain. The moon caught my eye and I just knew I need to take that shot. Besides, how could you not try to capture the beauty of it..?

Editing

The only thing I adjusted on this photo was to do a little crop to center it better. Generally I don't do many effects or changes to my photos. Sometimes I change them to B&W, age them or mostly crop. I've enhaneed color a couple times but for the most part Im happy with them as they are.

In my camera bag

The only things besides my camera in my bag are an 1 extra battery, a charger and 1 extra SD card. I also have a Tripod in the trunk of my car. Someday I'll upgrade my camera and add lenses and lighting equipment.

Feedback

Night photography needs exposre time. Dont rush the shot. The ironic part of that is that you dont realize how quicly the earth rotates until you take a Sun, moon and cloud shots. You will have to be organized align your shot and take it as quickly as time will allow. The earth will rotate you right out of your shot or it will change it in a matter of seconds. Take your photos from different angels you may find a better shot. I am not very technical or educated in photography. I just see beauty in everything and love that I can share it with everyone. We all have our own point of view and see things differently. If you see something beautiful, compelling or mind boggling, TAKE THE SHOT and SHARE IT!!
