Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken during the Imagine Dragons concert in the city of São Paulo, Brazil.

Time

The show happened overnight, with the start marked around 10:00 pm.

Lighting

Lights during a show are always a big challenge due to changes in intensities and colors.

Equipment

This photo was made with a Canon 5D MK III + Canon 70-200mm f / 2.8 USMII Lens.

Inspiration

Whenever I photograph some show I try to make photos like that. Make a kind of "portrait" even with all the movement of the musicians. I try to position myself in an angle where I can get a free background. I really like to bring this feeling of a programmed photo with the artist, natural poses and expressions difficult to achieve in a photo studio.

Editing

In this particular photo I made only a cut adjustment, so that the musician would be in a stronger position in the frame.

In my camera bag

I already had and tested several different devices from different brands . Today , I carry with me in my backpack , a Canon 5D MK III with Canon lenses , 8-15mm f4 , f2.8 16-35mm , 24-70mm USM II 2.8 and a 70-200mm USM II 2.8. Depending on the place , ND filters , tripod and whatever it takes to place

Feedback

I think one of the great "secrets" is to prepare, predict what will happen. Searching about the band that will perform helps a lot in the result of your photographs. Understanding how artists behave during the show, getting to know their most famous songs, is the best way to "predict" what will happen during the performance. With this idea of what "can" happen, just look at a background without interference and wait for the moment when the artist goes there.
