Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken at the local zoo in my area! I was visiting Brookfield Zoo and just happened to be at the right place at the right time!

Time

This photo was taken in the early afternoon, when the sun was extremely high in the sky!

Lighting

I used natural lighting to get this shot. When shooting animals it's not too good for their eyes if you use a hard flash. Luckily it was a beautiful sunny day!

Equipment

I used my Canon rebel DSLR camera with an 18- 200 mm lens.

Inspiration

I have always enjoyed photographing animals, but I can't always afford to go to exotic places to capture these images. So for practice I like to visit zoo's in order to get up close and personal with animals I wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

Editing

I didn't edit this photo too much. I just cleaned up some unsightly specs and sharped the colors.

In my camera bag

I always have my Canon Rebel with at least 3-4 different lenses. I also bring a bounce flash because I'm never sure when I'll need it! I also like to pack a 35 mm film camera, and my Polaroid camera!

Feedback

The advice I have when photographing animals is be patient. Let them behave naturally and always be ready to catch that split second shot!
