This photo was taken on Soldier Key which is an island in Florida I explore quite often. I have always loved wildlife and it was a an awesome moment being able to take this shot.Time
Surprisingly enough this I took this shot around 9 a.m. This mother coon came down from the top of the tree and looked at me as if almost asking me to give her food for her baby coons. After this shot I gave the momma coon some of the fish I had caught that morning and I watched as it would take bite of it and drop them for her babies. A very happy moment for a very happy coon family.Lighting
I wanted to catch her in her natural state. To see how well she camouflages with her surroundings. Most people give coons bad names since, of course, they are known for their thievery. Looking at this coon all I saw was a mother coon who needed some help with her daily grocery list.Equipment
I always carry two cameras with me: A Nikon D7200 that I usually put with a 18-300mm lens and a Nikon D3100 with a 50 mm lens. I grabbed the first camera I felt in my bag and shot away. It came out great on the D3100 even if it has fewer megapixels its been very trustworthy to me.Inspiration
I was coming back to my tent after fishing at the break of dawn and noticed this little family running and climbing up the tree. Thought to myself "hey I caught more fish than I will be able to eat today so why not share the love of a fresh catch." I'm sure if we could speak to animals she would have happily accepted me as part of her own.Editing
I did some post cropping and added some exposure to it to brighten up the image. I also added more sharpness to see the detail in her fur and the bark of the tree.In my camera bag
I always carry a carbon fiber tripod, Nikon d7200, Nikon d3100, 18-300mm lens, 50mm prime lens, and an 18-70 mm wide angle lens. I keep a hammock that folds into a mini pouch on hand at all times just incase I want to camp out in an interesting spot.Feedback
Honestly it is all about patience and respect. You have to be willing to spend a couple of hours each day to try and improve yourself and sometimes you don't even get the shot you wanted or expected. Point is not to feel defeated and say to yourself "Okay I've examined this area and now know what to expect." and what I mean by respect is don't run up to an animal like a little boy and throw a camera into an unknown animals face. How would you like that? If said animal runs away let it run free and without stress of you chasing it. You will get the shot at the right time and place. You just need to be willing to go on an adventure regardless of the destination.
