Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a South African Game Park area known as the Sabi Sands. The Sabi Sands is located on the unfenced border of the Kruger National Park .

Time

Early morning with crisp early-winter air and a a clear blue sky is always a good time to be out photographing birds and wildlife

Lighting

Soft early mornings light does help to bring out the attractive rainbow colours Lilac breasted Roller

Equipment

This photograph was captured hand held from the back of a Land Rover jeep with my Canon 5D MkIII, 600mm Prime lens (F/4). supported by a Monopod

Inspiration

For me capturing birds in flight is the ultimate challenge for a passionate wildlife photographer - especially if you are a Birder - The beauty and grace of a bird in flight - special!

Editing

Post processing is a must when shooting RAW So I use Photoshop and Lightroom - - just a week here and there to possibly sharpen colours and a slight cropping to position the subject in the frame

In my camera bag

I use Canon cameras and Lenses I travel with 2 cameras = currently Canon 5D MkIII and Canon 5DMkIV Lenses : 16/35 ( f 2.8) ; 24/105(f4.) ; 70/200 (f2.8) and a 600mm (f4.5t) Prime lens Basic cleaning equipment ; 4 batteries; External Hard drive; laptop computer;

Feedback

advice - I am not qualified to give anyone advise except that for wild-life photography you need to have 1. Patience 2. To be in the right place at the right time 3. Press the shutter button -Never hesitate to take the shot - Never think that you will get another opportunity again - 4. LUCK!
