This photo is taken at Snæfellsnes peninsula and was one of my early shots.Time
This picture is taken late in the evening when finishing a long day tour around the Snæfellsnes peninsula and when driving home I couldn´t resist this old house in the dramatic weather condition this evening.Lighting
The light was bad, low clouds and rainy, but it was perfect match to emphasize the dramatic atmosphere around this old abandoned house.Equipment
This image was shot handheld on my new Canon 5D Mrk II, with the kit lens 24-105 which has always been my favorite. No filters used.Inspiration
I was driving back home which is 2 hours drive, exhausted after a long day. I spotted this house a mile from the main road and simply couldn't resist checking out this composition. I guess that the mystery over this abandoned house in combination with the dramatic weather was drawing me to this place. Since this picture where taken I have notices several shots of the same composition by other photographers.Editing
I did shot several pictures there with different approaches and compositions. The final result was this 3 images with different exposure stitched together. I did that to bring out the contrasts of the house and the sky. The colors didn´t add anything to this picture as it was taken late autumn so I found it more appropriate to have it B&W.In my camera bag
At this time I only worked with my standard 24-105mm lens, no filters and no tripod, but today I also have in my bag, 16-35 and 70-200mm f4 lenses, ND and polarized filters from LEE and my tripod.Feedback
My personal taste is to capture pictures of abandoned houses in rather dramatic weather, low clouds and low light. Today I use tripod when shooting with f4 lenses but handheld if I shoot with f2.8 lenses. I do not use filters on this kind of compositions to avoid having shadows on the house but Exposure bracketing is better options.
