Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the fishing docks of New Bedford, MA.

Time

I took this picture at the break of dawn.

Lighting

The early morning lighting accentuates the natural character of this old pulley, which has undoubtedly seen many years at sea.

Equipment

This picture and detail was captured with my Canon EOS T3i with its stock lens.

Inspiration

I love waking up just before dawn and finding photographic treasures, like this pulley. Its unique texture drew me in.

Editing

I did some slight post editing. I pumped the saturation slightly and added a just a little more warmth to the image, but it didn't need much more than mother nature's touch.

In my camera bag

If I am just out looking for images on a random early morning, i travel lightly; my Canon, my 18-55mm lens, my 50mm Prime lens, my wide angle lens, and an extra battery, If I am looking to capture something more specific, however, I always my by multi-purpose reflector/ diffuser and an appropriate source of lighting.

Feedback

For starters, you'll need to wake up before the sun rises, which may not be for every one! I also suggest looking at objects you may not necessarily think of photographing. I love taking close-up shots of items most people would pass by and not look at twice.
