Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in my basement studio in Grand Rapids Michigan on cold winter night.Time
It was taken at night, indoors so all of the lighting is artificial.Lighting
I used a homemade LED ring light for this photo. The catchlight on the spider’s eyes really helps make this shot.Equipment
This shot was made using a Canon 5d markIII with a 100mm f/2.8 macro lens, a travel tripod and a diy LED ring light.Inspiration
I have always loved macro photography. And of course these little jumping spiders are just so photogenic! This little one started to visit me on a nightly basis so I started to feed it. Every night when I would sit down to edit it would peek out from behind my hard drive. It wanted to photograph it. It decided to pose on a tablet that was on my desk. It just worked out great!Editing
There wasn’t much post on this shot. It was mostly just removing dust from the reflective surface of the tablet. In my camera bag
I try to keep it pretty simple in my bag. Of course my 5dIII always goes along with my 100mm f/2.8. I typically also have my sigma 24-70mm and a 50mm prime. I always have my trusty travel tripod with me as well.Feedback
Slow down and take the time to see. Sometimes just sitting still and letting your surroundings consume you can lead to some amazing sights. And, never don’t try. Fail, fail, fail but always keep learning and trying.
