First LightLighting
Perfectly clear sky at dawn, stars were still out and only the horizon had any light beginning to filter into the night sky.Equipment
Nikon D800 with 17-35mm f/2.8 lens, Gitzo tripod, RRS BH-55 ballhead and wireless remote. 2-stop hard edge Singh-Ray Split ND filter.Inspiration
It was the reflective design in the sand leading to the horizon. Along with the calm ocean and sky, it came together as an abstract image, that was at the same time an accurate replication of what was actually there.Editing
Some of the sand to the right was a little dark and threw off the balance a bit, so it had to be lightened. In my camera bag
Nikon D800 - All Nikon lenses - 17-35mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8 (selected for the added aperture of f/22), and 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6VR, 10-stop ND, soft and hard edge split ND filters (2-stop), wireless remote, set of close-up filters, and spare battery.Feedback
Under expose by about one stop from the meter reading if shooting a mostly dark sky. Either overide the manual exposure, or set the exposure compensation to -1-stop.
