Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the 'Train Cemetery' in Uyuni, Bolivia. I love taking pictures of objects, so this place was like a photographer's paradise to me.

Time

This picture was taken around midday. I was taking part in a tour organised to go to the salt flats of Uyuni, and we did a stop at this place called 'Train Cemetery' before heading to the amazing salt lake.

Lighting

I wanted to create the feeling that the gigantic train is coming towards you. That's why I kneeled to take the picture and the natural lighting was already perfect as it was.

Equipment

A Nikon S9700 is the only equipment I used to make this picture. A small but powerful camera, ideal for travel because of its compact size.

Inspiration

The whole place was a playground for photographers. I wanted to bring the rustic aspect of the abandoned train into one powerful picture.

Editing

All I did was putting the original shot in black and white with MS Office Picture Manager, and enhance the contrast.

In my camera bag

In the period I took this picture, I just had the Nikon S9700 with me. Recently I bought myself a little tripod to make solo travelling and night shots easier.

Feedback

To try to make this train look bigger, I took it from a low angle. I also used the rule of thirds technique by placing the front of the train in one third of the picture. The weather was sunny, so the lighting was great.
