The house was quiet! What kind of trouble are the boys getting into was my first thought but when I saw them sitting there reading together by the light of the window each with their feet crossed and the little one resting his head on his big brother I knew. I knew if I could catch it without breaking the spell it would be special. How I love this image!

Behind The Lens
Location
In our traditional Japanese farmhouse which are usually very dark I installed three floor to ceiling windows. The morning light that comes through plays magic with the wood in the room and makes for wonderful portraits.Time
This was taken mid morning.Lighting
This was taken with just natural light coming through the window behind the boys.Equipment
This was taken with one of my favorite cameras the Nikon D90 and a 35 mm F1.8 lens.Inspiration
It was just one of those precious moments you grab your camera and hope you get the shot on the first try. My sons are only a year apart in age but my oldest Kai has taken it upon himself to teach his little brother the ways of the World. We live a simple life without T.V. or video games so reading plays a big part in kick starting their imaginations.Editing
Yes I used Lightroom for this shot adjusting the contrast and highlights then converted to B&W using Silver Efex which is a wonderful programs for B&W conversion. In my camera bag
These days I shoot with a now well used and soon to be replaced D600. I prefer primes over zooms and usually carry my beloved 85mm, a nifty 50 and a 180 mm 2.8. In addition there is always at least two speedlights and a couple of light modifiers.Feedback
Lots and lots of patience and strategically placed cameras for the quick grab and shoot.
