Behind The Lens

Location

I was vacationing in Maui with my family. This photo was taken at a stop along the Road to Hana. We pulled over to enjoy the beach and snap a couple of pictures.

Time

I can't recall the exact time of day this photo was taken, sometime in the afternoon.

Lighting

I was still very new to photography when I took this. I wasn't thinking about the lighting, I was focused on the scene in front of me and playing around with the settings on my camera until I got a shot that I was proud of.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS Rebel T3i with a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens.

Inspiration

When we stopped to walk around, I loved how the tree and shrubs framed the island out in the water. What initially captured my attention was the tree; with is exposed roots and the uniqueness of the trunk.

Editing

I did a little bit of post-processing in Adobe Lightroom. I wanted to adjust the temperature of the photo and enhance the greens and blues to match what I had seen that day.

In my camera bag

At the time that I shot this photo, the Rebel T3i and lens were the only equipment that I owned. Now, I keep a Canon Speedlite 580EX II Shoe Mount Flash, Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens, and Manfrodo tripod with me, along with my original equipment.

Feedback

You can find beauty anywhere. When you find a scene that you love, take the time to stop and capture it. Don't be afraid to try new things and experiment with your camera.
