Location
This photo has been taken in my home studio in Quebec, Canada.Time
I don't really remember what time it was. When in the studio, every window are shut with wooden panels and I lost my sense of time tracking. By creating a room that is disconnected from the outside make the perfect lab for experimentation.Lighting
I used two small light sources and worked with them to enhance the texture of the image. I wanted to represent beauty with a rough a severe expression.Equipment
Nothing fancy here, just a Good Ol' Canon EOS 40D, with an EF28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens. Th exposure was at 1/20 sec. at f/3.5. with a speed rating at ISO 100. Focal length was set at 28mm.Inspiration
I often ask myself what defines the beauty of a human face; is this the expression? Traits? Symmetry or any other mathematical rule? I choose to explore this issue by working with severe and asymmetrical traits.Editing
Original was a color photo. I processed it to render a greyscale version. There was no retouching relative to the physiognomy of the modelIn my camera bag
I love prime lens. I typically bring with me a 28mm, 35mm 50mm and 135mm. 35mm and 50mm are the ones I prefer.Feedback
No makeup. Then take your time. Your model has to feel comfortable first. Then ask her to express emotions. Her body already knows how to express a thought so don't try to "place her" by directing her movements. Direct her by asking her to express something, or best bring her mind where you want to go.
