Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was actually taken in my bathroom. I needed a place where I could get the room completely black so the glow from the jellyfish can really stand out.

Time

This was taken in the afternoon. In order to get the jellyfish to glow I had leave it by the window sill to absorb as much light as possible for about an hour, before I took it into the darkness.

Lighting

I wanted to under expose the photo so the light from the jellyfish can do all the work.

Equipment

I used my old Olympus pl-2 camera. I didn't have any fancy equipment, as a matter of fact I didn't have any equipment expect a camera.

Inspiration

I loved the beautiful glow that came from the jellyfish and I just wanted to share it with everybody. That's mostly my inspiration for all my photos, I see something beautiful and I just want to share it with everyone.

Editing

Yes, in Lightroom. I increased the contrast, made sure you couldn't see anything in background, increase the saturation of the blue, and sharpened it a bit, to get it to really pop.

In my camera bag

Since this photo was taken, I have upgraded my camera to a Olympus OM-D E-M10. My go to lens is Lumix G Vario 14-140mm. I'm not a big time photographer and I can't definitely afford the nicer cameras and lens but you don't need the expensive stuff to capture a great photo.

Feedback

You don't need a studio, fancy lighting equipment. I literally shot this in my bathroom with the lights off and put the camera on a stack of books to substitute for a tripod.
