Location
This photo was taken in southern GeorgiaTime
It was taken around dusk so I could utilize a dark natural backgroundLighting
I wanted good catchlight in his eyes since I knew I would be processing the photo in black and white so I used a 36" shoot through with an extra diffusion panelEquipment
It was shot with a Canon 5D Mark III, 100mm Macro lens at 2.8 with an ND filter to block out any bright distractionsInspiration
I have always loved details and after a few test shots I decided to get out the macro and focus on his details and expressionsEditing
It was processed in Lightroom with minor exposure and contrast adjustments, and I used curves to keep a good dynamic rangeIn my camera bag
I shoot primarily with a Canon 5D Mark III but have a 6D as a backup. The 100mm is one of my favorite focal lengths but I also have a 35mm art lens from Sigma, a Canon 24-70, 85mm, 50mm, and a Manual Focus 58mm Macro (which makes beautiful bokeh)Feedback
Shooting pets is always a little tricky, I like to use something that gets their attention which allows me time to compose a shot rather then chasing them and rushing my framing
