Behind The Lens

Location

I actually took this photo in my living room using natural light coming from our oversized window. Just whipped out the gray seamless and back drop stand and pushed the couch out of the way.

Time

This pic was taken at about noon time. I had really wanted to do up my daughters pics outside, but we recently had been dealing with some snow and chilly wind. I was actually in a rush to get them done because she was modeling the dress for CachCach and I know they usually like to have their outfits sent right back. You wouldn't know that I was rushed and actually all frustrated with doing this shot.

Lighting

My living room gets amazing light pretty much a majority of the day. It's truly the perfect spot to do photos with a window on each wall and then a large window over the door way. Plenty of natural light to work with.

Equipment

I used my Canon 50d, using my 50mm and tripod. Along with my backdrop stand and gray savage seamless paper.

Inspiration

I was actually looking for a small wooden step stool to have her sit or stand on. I was trying to find ways to best capture this dress. So i just quickly set up a few props that seemed to have the color scheme of the dress somewhat. I'm trying to push myself and be more creative with doing this clothing shoots. I usually have the opportunity to use trees/bushes etc, but the weather was not right for it.

Editing

Yes I did do a little post processing. I still struggle and actually do not know a whole lot about photoshop. I mainly brightened and smoothed, along with using the unsharp mask.

In my camera bag

My camera (canon 50d), my L series lens 70-200mm, 50mm and my 85mm. There is a gray card,a remote and some other random odds and ends in my bag as well.

Feedback

Just watch your light. Study it. Watch where and how it falls on your subject. Don't be afraid to move the subject. Whatever type of lighting you are looking for, just gor for it. Whether it be flat or dramatic.
