Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Tasmania, Australia. The image is of the Bicheno Blowhole .... with a little twist.

Time

It was taken about 4pm

Lighting

It was a dull day, nothing special.

Equipment

At the time I was using a Nikon D70.

Inspiration

It is a lovely place to be. It was the combination of the dramatic white spray against the formation of clouds, the texture of the rocks and that funny looking rock just perched on top that made for an interesting composition.

Editing

I loved the flow of the lines and texture of this image and just had to have a play with it. I'm not afraid to over saturate, really bend that tone curve and distort to my heart's content just to see what sort of effect it creates. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. The trick is knowing when to stop with the effects!

In my camera bag

Mostly I have a spare camera with me. Most of my images are captured quickly on the spot, no planning involved.

Feedback

Let your heart sing. some photographers get into the technical side of photography, some are right into the accuracy of colour and image, some deep into post production with software. It's all good, but I just love having no rules or particular expectations for my work. My inspiration comes more from the feel of the image, connecting with people through colour, subject and composition even as an abstract.
