Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while holidaying in Jurien Bay, Western Australia. I am self taught and strictly an amateur photographer ........ but my passion for photography helps me to keep moving forward and learning new things all the time.

Time

Taken at 10.30 in the morning. I remember thinking phew it's going to be an overcast day so I didn't have to get up early. I am not a morning person and I hate being cold so early morning get ups are not my thing. But I will do it if it means getting a fantastic shot!

Lighting

I was aiming for a HDR shot of this old jetty and because of the overcast conditions light was not going to be a problem.

Equipment

This photo was taken early in my photography journey. I used my Canon 70D, EFS 18-200mm kit lens and a slik tripod. Even though it is mid range equipment you can still take great photo's.

Inspiration

My favourite place is the beach and finding a subject surrounded by the sea with sand in the foreground - it was begging to be photographed. Love the beach. I live in the bush so these opportunities don't come along very often.

Editing

Still on the learning ladder re: post processing. Used lightroom to adjust the contrast.

In my camera bag

Two years later I now still have the Canon 70D but have updated my lenses. Always carry my wide angle lens Canon EF17-40mm and Canon EF 70-200mm. Manfrotto befree tripod, remote, lens pen, spare batteries and SD cards. Polarising filters and ND Grad Filters

Feedback

Get into the habit of never going anywhere without a camera. And if you can I find going back to the same spot at a different time of the day or under different light conditions can give you some surprising results.
