I took this photo in a local Zoo in Hungary, Europe. This black and white portrait shows a young siberian tiger. The picture was taken in 2015, since then I became a 26 times award winner photographer, and even became a certified specialist at National Geographic in 2019.Time
It was late spring if my memory serves me, an the best time to take photos is between 5-20:00 pm depends on the lights. Natural lights are the best for an animal portrait.Lighting
Absolutely. The lighting can be the essence of the photograph. It determines the atmosphere and catch the audience. I have seen many photographers using artificial lights in the nature, but I tell you, natural lights have the best effect.Equipment
This picture was shot my good old Canon EOS 500D and I used a 70-200mm lens. I didnt use tripod either flash or any other extre equipment. Only my goog old camera and lens. Unless we say patience is an extra equipment what you need to use. Wild animals will not pose just for the sake of you. And this portrait is special because of the look of the animal. The eyes are the key of the picture if we are talking about a portrait.Inspiration
Since the early days I was interested in animals, nature, and wildlife. I wanted to be a vet or a doctor as a kid. But what is really inspired me that engagement and love what I feel for the animals in general.Editing
Yes. Every picture need some post process. I turned the original coloured picture into a black and white one. I added a bit more contrast and also used light tool.In my camera bag
Two cameras, I have my good old Canon EOS 500D and my quiet new friend was bought two years ago a Canon 1D Mark IV. Three lenses I have a fix one, a portrait, and a 70-300 mm. If Im going to take pictures I bring two memory cards at least, charger and some special tools to keep my lenses clean.Feedback
My advice is whatever you want to take the picture about, you have to love the subject and you have to be truly engaged. There is no trick. Its coming from you. A picture has soul it can almost speak to you when you fulfill it with life. When you are truly engaged you pay more attention to the details and you are able to do that, to make not just a picture but a picture fulfilled with life. As they say "The devil is in the details".
