Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken at Lyme Regis in Dorset and the stones on the left are part of "The Cob"

Time

Taken in the afternoon when the wind was strongest and at the highest tide of the month. This happens several times a year but on this occasion all the elements happened together

Lighting

With the wind blowing from the west at around 50 mph the only place to get this shot from was in the small gap between the beach huts!

Equipment

Nikon D750 with Sigma 50-500 hand held while wedged between two beach huts

Inspiration

Have always enjoyed waves and the combination of tide and wind regularly produced conditions that might produce spectacular images, just being there to see them was the biggest inspiration.

Editing

Mainly Lightroom to correct colours, contrast and clarity. Speed and aperture set for the conditions gave me the right ingredients to work with.

In my camera bag

Rarely take a bag as I plan the expedition based on the expected conditions and the image I want to capture and take the equipment to get it.

Feedback

Know the area , be certain of the expected conditions and when they will occur and don't expect to get the image at the first attempt , you may have a pleasant surprise but you should never be disappointed, just do it again until you get that shot !
