"I am Neverland"

Today is the beginning of my 50 Weeks of Alchemy Challenge. I want to go back to my roots where I feel most at home and shoot one self-portrait every week for the next 50 weeks. There have been some gaps in my work over the past few months and I haven’t felt the satisfaction I usually do in spinning out art. I've missed the challenge photography has always presented to me or the wave of inspiration I'd have at 2 AM. For the past few months creating has become, sad as it is to admit, a means to an end.
This past weekend for the first time in weeks I felt the pull to pick up the camera not because I have to but because I want to.

Over the next few month I will be creating pieces that say something about where I am in life. Every piece will explain what has inspired me or what I might be feeling at the moment. I won’t hold back on a lot of the details. Art is meaningful to me when it is cathartic and transparent. I want to get back to a place this year where creating is an adventure not a chore.

Today’s piece reminds me of Neverland. The place my literary adventures' teleported me to that I never stopped loving. I’ve thought a lot about the over flowing bookshelf in the corner of my room where several lifetimes of crusades and unending youth stand gathering dust and holding each other up. Shameful as it is to admit, I haven’t read or written much at all since I graduated college last May. Mostly because I’ve focused all my energy on my career. I’ve always been an avid reader and my favorite books always seemed to find their way into my artwork over the years.

So, this year I’m determined to find my way back to Neverland, rediscover my inner Pan and meet every moment with the ferocity I know I still got.

If you're an artist and you're hurting for a spark of inspiration feel free to join me on my quest. I adore other artists work and each person's unique flavor. Feel free to use the hashtag
