Location
This was taken in my backyard on the waxing moon. I see so many pics of the full moon I decided I wanted something a bit different. So bring on the mysterious “dark side”.Time
This was about 11:30pm. I live in a rural area so there is not much light pollution.Lighting
The moon is very bright and it is very easy to over expose it. From memory this was around 1/250 sec and f/8. I used a 400mm lens on a tripod, once you get a hood focus switch to manual focus on the lens or use back button focus. Use the mirror up function on the camera then wait a hood 5sec before releasing the shutter. If you have one a remote release is also great for this type of shot.Equipment
Canon 5D Mk IV, Canon 100-400L series lens with IS set to off. Tripod and corded shutter release.Inspiration
The moon just looked really amazing on this particular night.Editing
Generally just cropping and some adjustment on the colour temp.In my camera bag
As above but with quite a few extra lens, flashes and remote flash controllers. Batteries and spare memory cards.Feedback
Bet patient with the moon as it does move across the sky pretty quick. Take some bracketed shoots as I mentioned earlier the moon is very bright so you may find the -EV are the better shots.
